Authors Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture have lost their creative director

Dan Pinchbeck, co-founder and creative director of The Chinese Room studio, has announced his retirement from the company. Dan called the reason for his departure “a desire to see what is happening in the world outside the studio, which I have devoted the last years to creating.”

15 years ago, he was one of the two co—founders of the studio, which with its debut game — Dear Esther – popularized the genre of “walking simulator”.

Initially, The Chinese Room was an initiative group of several artists working at night on mods for Half-Life. Today it is a studio with more than a hundred employees who are preparing for the release of the first—person narrative horror Still Wakes the Deep.
