Opinion: Comcast plans to buy a gaming company. Maybe Nintendo or Take-Two
Comcast Telecommunications Corporation, which owns NBCUniversal, may be eyeing the purchase of a gaming company. Geetha Ranganathan, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, thinks so.
According to Ranganathan, such a purchase will help Comcast increase the number of customers and open up new opportunities for the corporation. “Games allow you to engage the audience more and create a better experience. Comcast will be able to use characters from the games [in other projects]. Super Mario is a great example of a brand that is present in games, movies and a theme park,” the analyst added.
Among the takeover candidates are Nintendo, Take-Two, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard, if the latter does not have a deal with Microsoft.
Last year, there were already rumors that Comcast wanted to buy a gaming company — then the media reported that the corporation had almost reached an agreement with Electronic Arts. Also in 2019, it planned to acquire the South Korean Nexon.
