Super Mario Bros. — the first video game whose music has been preserved in the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress of the United States, whose collection contains films, sound recordings and many other significant materials for the country, in addition to rare books, has added 25 musical compositions to its register. One of them was the theme from Super Mario Bros.
Representatives of the Library named the theme from Super Mario Bros. “probably the most recognizable in history.” Note that previously music from video games was not saved in the Library. The author of the theme, composer Koji Kondo, said that it was difficult for him to believe what had happened and it was a great honor for him that the composition he created received such recognition.
Along with the theme from Super Mario Bros. The Library’s collection now includes, among other things, Imagine by John Lennon, All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey and Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.
