343 Industries mistakenly added cosmetics with a racist name to Halo Infinite
June 19 in the United States is celebrated Juneteenth or the Day of the Liberation of slaves. The creators of Halo Infinite decided to celebrate the event and added a new coloring to the game on the eve of the holiday. That’s just its name was very disliked by gamers.
343 Industries has released cosmetics under the name Bonobo — this is the name of the species of great apes. Some users considered it a racist insult and immediately started complaining about the developers on social networks. After 25 minutes, the studio changed its name to Freedom, and then hurried to apologize and explain that a big mistake had occurred.
According to the community manager of Halo Infinite, the word Bonobo refers to a set of tools used by developers, and should not have surfaced in the game.
