Focus Entertainment on M&A: "we are trying to create a kind of federation of studios"
Two years ago, Focus Entertainment took over M&A. It was joined by five gaming companies, including the creators of Metal Slug Tactics and Necromunda: Hired Gun. In an interview with the GamesIndustry portal, the French publisher spoke a little about his approach to transactions.
Focus Entertainment noticed that all the studios it bought specialize in different genres: from puzzles to shooters. It’s not just like that. According to the company, by buying assets that are completely different from each other, it can get rid of competition between internal teams. In addition, studios can learn from each other — shooter developers borrow experience from the authors of “bagels”, specialists from one team start working on the engine of another, etc.
At the same time, we are not talking about simply acquiring as many diverse companies as possible, Focus Entertainment added. She is looking for those who are close to her concept of “federation”, and who will be able to work in such a team for a long time.
