Epic Games Buys Bandcamp Music Platform

Epic Games continues to add music assets to the portfolio. She has agreed to purchase Bandcamp, an online music store and platform for promoting indie artists. The amount of the transaction is not called.

Bandcamp will continue to operate as an independent platform, and its co-founder and CEO Ethan Diamond will retain his position.

According to Epic Games, the music platform it bought “will play an important role in building a trading ecosystem where different types of content are present: technology, games, art and much more.”

Bandcamp itself expects to expand its presence on the international market with the help of the deal. She is also going to improve certain functions of the service. For example, to upgrade album pages, mobile application, payment system, search, merch tools, vinyl printing and streaming.

In the person of Epic Games, we have found a partner who believes as deeply as we do that the future of music and art in general depends on the creation of equal and inclusive communities. Communities like the one our fans and artists helped build. We are happy to work together with the Epic Games team. Together we will be able to accelerate the implementation of our mission and achieve a common goal — to empower more creators in an honest and open way.

Bandcamp is not Epic Games’ first “music” deal. In November last year, the company bought Harmonix studio, known for rhythm games Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Central. After the purchase, Harmonix committed to writing music for Fortnite and helping developers with “rethinking the ways of perceiving, creating and distributing music.”
