Unlike most mobile genres, hypercage’s downloads grew in 2021. And at a rapid pace. Neither the “base effect” nor the IDFA story prevented this.

Such conclusions can be reached when reading the State of Mobile App 2022 report from App Annie.
One of the slides of the work is devoted to the dynamics of game downloads by genre over the past 10 years, broken down by year.
According to the data provided:
- annual downloads of hyper-casual games in the action sub-category increased from 2.74 billion to 4.01 billion (46%);
- annual downloads of hyper-casual games in the puzzle subcategory increased from 3.51 billion to 3.78 billion (7.7%);
- annual downloads of hyper-casual games in the simulator subcategory increased from 2.49 billion to 3.15 billion (26.5%).
Dynamics of mobile genre downloads by year
Most of the other genres in the top 10 most downloaded showed a drop last year.
According to App Annie, the most downloaded hyper-casual games in these subcategories are:
- Hair Challenge;
- Water Sort Puzzle;
- Phone Case DIY.
