Nexon CEO: "We are not a gaming company"
The CEO of the South Korean Nexon, Owen Mahoney, said at a meeting with investors that it was incorrect to call his publishing house a gaming company. Because it doesn’t work with video games, but with virtual worlds.
As an argument, Mahoney pointed out that Nexon is primarily concerned not with the money spent by gamers, but with the number of hours played and the level of community involvement. At the same time, he noted that a well-managed virtual world can double its revenue in a few years.
In 2022, Nexon received record revenue of $2.59 billion (+28.9%), but its net profit fell by 11.6% to $733 million. Dungeon&Fighter, MapleStory and FIFA Online 4 brought the most money to the publisher.
