Epic Games earned $53 million on giveaways in the Epic Games Store in the first months of the store's operation
Giveaways in the Epic Games Store are in great demand among gamers. However, only a small part of the audience buys games in the store after them. Epic Games estimated that in the first nine months of EGS operation (December 2018 – September 2019), such users brought her only $53 million – this is 33% of the total revenue of the store.
This became known from court documents published during the hearings in the case of Epic and Apple.
Main figures:
- By September 2019, the audience of EGS was 20.7 million people. 18.5 million of them decided to register on the site after they took the game away during the free giveaway;
- only 1.32 million users who participated in the giveaways at least once bought games in the store after them. On average, one such user spent $40 (ARPPU) in EGS. In total, this category of gamers brought the store $ 53 million (33% of all revenue);
- but 2.2 million people have signed up for EGS for purchases, not giveaways. They were a little more generous. On average, their ARPPU by September 2019 amounted to $48.7, and total expenses — $107 million (67% of all store revenue).
Earlier, it also became known from court documents that during the same period (December 2018 – September 2019) Epic spent about $11.6 million on distributing games in EGS. This is 4.6 times less than in the end the store earned thanks to them.
