SuperData: In January, the number of players in Red Dead Redemption 2 reached a record level on PC
SuperData analysts shared a fresh overview of the digital gaming market. Among the most successful projects in January are Valorant and Red Dead Redemption 2.
General data:
- in 2021, gamers continue to actively buy digital versions of games. This January, users spent $11.6 billion on the “figure” — 15% more than a year ago;
- mobile’s revenue increased by 6% year—on-year, and sales of digital games for consoles increased by 24%. But the biggest revenue growth again came in the PC segment – 31%.
January’s highest-grossing games on PC, consoles and mobile devicesData on individual games:
- from December to January, Valorant’s revenue grew by 39%, and the audience by 29%. Moreover, 72% of the users who arrived during this time were returning players. This success is associated with the start of a fresh season and the addition of a new character;
- The World of Warcraft indicators returned to the standard level after the excitement around the Shadowlands supplement released in November subsided. Over the past three months, MMORPG revenues have fallen by 61%, and the number of players by 41% (these figures do not take into account China);
- In January, the audience of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 reached a historic level and almost doubled the console audience of the project. The fact is that in December Rockstar started selling multiplayer Red Dead Online at a big discount ($4.99 instead of $19.99). This motivated some console developers to buy a PC version of the game with improved graphics at the same time. As a result, in December and January, the total circulation of RDR2 and Red Dead Online on PC amounted to 1.8 million copies sold, and on consoles — only 611 thousand.
