$1 million for a softlonch is not enough. So they think in Supercell and close Hay Day Pop

The new Supercell game earned $1 million in softlonch. Apparently, this was not enough. The Finnish giant has announced that it will close the Hay Day Pop project, which has not been released worldwide, in the winter of 2021.

In March, the authors of Clash of Clans carried out a “soft launch” of a game in the collapse genre (aka match-2, in which the player does not shift elements for destruction, but clicks those that stand close together). It was called Hay Day Pop and featured a complex meta that resembled in a number of principles similar to Wildscapes from Playrix.

Today, on November 30, it became known that Supercell decided to “kill” the product. The developers of the game came to the conclusion that it does not meet the company’s standards, according to which every released game “should be played for years and remembered forever.” The Hay Day Pop servers will close on February 1 next year.

Sensor Tower analysts in a conversation with us shared the results that the game has achieved in six months:

  • Hay Day Pop downloads totaled 360 thousand;
  • the revenue of the game was about $ 990 thousand;
  • Canada had the largest number of downloads and earned money.

Supercell is known for its practice of closing projects that do not meet expectations within the softlonch. Hay Day Pop will be the seventh such game for a Finnish company. The last time Supercell “stoked the game” was a year ago. Then she was not satisfied with the repetitiveness of Rush Wars.
