Sumo Group announced the purchase of the American studio Pipeworks for $ 100 million
The British Sumo Group has again replenished its portfolio with foreign assets. This time, the company invested in Pipeworks, a studio from the USA associated with the development of Madden NFL and Terraria.
Pipeworks is an American collaborative development studio that was founded back in 1999. Among her clients: Electronic Arts, Wizards of the Coast, Google, Genvid and Age of Learning. Pipeworks also cooperates with the US public sector in the context of studying “game science”, artificial intelligence and real-time modeling.
According to Sumo Group, the deal with American developers has become the largest for the company since the IPO. The purchase is also of strategic importance for the British — it strengthens the presence of Sumo Group on the West Coast of the USA.
As part of the deal, 134 people joined the staff of Sumo Group. The company also obtained the rights to Pipeworks games, including the deep-play Prominence Poker for PC and consoles.
All this happened against the backdrop of successful financial results of Sumo Group. The half-year revenue of the British company increased by 26.7% compared to the same period in 2019 and reached the level of £26.3 million ($34 million).
Sumo Group attributes outstanding growth, among other things, to the launch of seven new games, of which four are original franchises: Spyder, Little Orpheus, WST Snooker and Hood.
