Fortnite has updated the peak online thanks to the virtual show of the popular rapper
Fortnite hosted an unusual event with the participation of celebrity rapper Travis Scott. That night he gave a virtual concert, which was attended by 12.3 million players. This is a new peak online record for Fortnite.
For comparison: the previous similar event in the “royal battle” — the Marshmello concert in February 2019 – attracted 10.7 million people. This audience was a record before Travis Scott’s performance.
The show of the American rapper caused a stir in streaming services. 1.7 million viewers gathered on YouTube Gaming, another 1.2 million on Twitch. These figures are comparable to the number of viewers of Celebrity Pro-Am esports tournaments.
The event attracted increased attention also because Scott performed a completely new composition. At the same time, the concert lasted only ten minutes. During this time, Epic Games submerged part of the map under water, and then launched players into space. Social networks are full of enthusiastic reviews from the audience: many write that the concert exceeded their expectations.
Note that Epic Games has scheduled four more Scott concerts in the coming days. The next one will be held today at 17:00 Moscow time.
For “epics”, unusual methods of promoting Fortnite are commonplace. For example, before launching the storyline “Chapter 2” in the game, the company turned off the game and all its social media accounts without warning. The game world was sucked into a black hole for two days.
In addition, Epic Games often conducts collaborations with celebrities and major brands such as Marvel.
