The top of the highest-grossing geolocation mobile games of 2019 has been released
In 2019, Rockemop GO earned $894 million. This is the fifth most profitable mobile game on the planet, and the first among geolocation games. Sensor Tower showed how much she beat her colleagues in the genre.
Rockemop GO has been the leader of the geolocation genre for several years. But in 2019, she also earned more than in the release year ($894 million versus $832 million). No geolocation AR-title has ever been able to do this.
The top 3 genres, in addition to the game from Niantic, included Dragon Quest Walk (Square Enix) and Let’s Hunt Monsters (Tencent).
- Dragon Quest Walk, based on a series of popular JRPGs, was released last September. In four months, she earned $201 million. And all this is income from the Japanese market, since the game was launched only in the Land of the Rising Sun. Nevertheless, in none of these months did the revenue of Dragon Quest Walk exceed the revenue of Rockemop GO.
Dragon Quest WalkWe wrote more about Let’s Hunt Monsters in April.
- This is the only game in the Sensor Tower top that is not based on the popular IP. All her income comes only from China. In less than a year, she earned $60 million.
Let’s Hunt Monsters
Nevertheless, the separation of Rockemops from both is obvious.
The rest of the genre’s games are far behind. Jurassic World Alive (Ludia) was for some time the most earning geolocation game after Pokemon, but lost to two newcomers. And Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (Niantic), released in the summer, could not surpass even Jurassic World, despite its famous IP.
If we talk about the mobile games market as a whole, the Niantic title closed the top five highest-grossing projects. It was overtaken by Candy Crush Saga (King) with revenue of $1.1 billion. But the Monster Strike (Mixi) battler earned less than the GO Rockemop — $881 million.
The highest-grossing mobile game was Honor of Kings (Tencent). Its revenue for the year amounted to $1.5 billion.
