One fifth of the total revenue of the iOS games market in the USA is for match-3
GameRefinery estimated the revenue of game genres in the US iOS market. Match-3 is leading by a large margin.
The statistics were collected by the chief game analyst of GameRefinery Erno Kiiski, as reported by GameAnalytics. The data are presented for the second quarter of this year.
- Currently, match-3 generates the largest revenue in the American iOS games market. The share of projects of this genre from the total revenue is 20%. Moreover, more than 5% was independently generated by Candy Crash Saga from King.
- Match-3 is followed by another casual genre — slots. They are responsible for 11.2% of the total turnover in the market.
- The top 5 most profitable genres also included 4X strategies (9.2%), “royal battles” (7.8%) and build & battle (6.3%). Moreover, the top games of the last two genres – Fornite and Clash of Clans, respectively — are responsible for the same market share as Candy Crash Saga.
- Turn-based RPGs came in sixth place with a 5.2% share.
- The remaining four genres have similar revenue. For sandboxes, RPG-heads, AR- (or geolocation games) and battlers, an average of 2.6% of revenue in the market.
