Financial Times: In May, PUBG Mobile became the most earning mobile game in the world

Last month, Tencent’s mobile PUBG earned $146 million in the App Store and Google Play, writes the Financial Times. Her monthly earnings turned out to be higher than any other mobile game on the planet.

For comparison:

Another hit from Tencent, Honor of Kings, earned $125 million in May. That is, according to analysts, it was significantly inferior to PUBG Mobile in terms of revenue.

It is worth noting that the method of calculating revenue from the publication is ambiguous. The sum of $146 million was made up of $76 million earned by PUBG Mobile outside China, and $70 million in Game for Peace revenue. Game for Peace is a battle royale that Tencent released in China instead of the local version of PUBG. The latter, we recall, was not missed by the Chinese state censorship.

However, this FT approach is understandable. According to analysts at Great Wall Securities, the content in PUBG Mobile and Game for Peace is identical. In fact, Tencent has only rebranded the “battle royale” for China and adjusted its level of brutality. Therefore, the revenues of both games can be summed up.

Game for Peace was released on the Chinese market in April. It immediately surpassed PUBG Mobile by several times in terms of daily revenue.

Nevertheless, PUBG Mobile is considered the most popular mobile game outside of China according to App Annie.

The project’s MAU is 100 million users.

The success of these “royal battles” is guaranteed to improve the affairs of the media giant Tencent, which suffered from last year’s freezing of game licensing in China. According to the forecast of Jefferies investment bank, Tencent’s mobile revenue could grow by 26% compared to 2018.
