Reuters: Riot Games and Tencent are developing a mobile League of Legends
One of the most popular esports disciplines, League of Legends, will receive a mobile branch. Riot Games is working on a new title together with Tencent.
This information was reported by Reuters with reference to three exclusive sources. One of them claims that the game has been in development for more than a year. Another is that it is unlikely to be launched in 2019. Details of the project are unknown (sources refer to confidentiality).
According to Reuters, the idea of creating a mobile version of League of Legends was proposed by Tencent. Then, a few years ago, Riot Games rejected this offer, and Tencent began preparing for the release of Honor of Kings. Later, because of this game, which was released in 2015 and became the largest in its genre, there were “strained relations” between Tencent and Riot.
Nevertheless, the Chinese media giant currently owns 93% of Riot Games. The purchase of a block of shares took place in the same year 2015.
Tencent declined to comment on the mobile League of Legends, and Riot Games has not responded to the request.
