The mobile version of Perfect World earned $100 million in China in less than a month
On the fifth of March, the mobile release of the role-playing MMO Perfect World took place in China. The game took a little more than three weeks to earn $100 million on iOS. Thanks to this, it overtook Honor of Kings in monthly iOS revenue and became Tencent’s highest-grossing game for March.
Perfect World
For reference: Honor of Kings is not only the highest-yielding Tencent game in the Chinese App Store, but also in general the highest-grossing game in the Chinese market.
And, as noted by the analytical company Sensor Tower, which was the first to pay attention to the dynamics of sales of Perfect World, last year Honor of Kings was “shifted” from the first place in the Chinese App Store only eight times and only twice — for more than one day. Perfect World, in turn, managed to keep Honor of Kings in the second position in the top 17 days in a row.
According to analysts, the daily spending of Perfect World users in China, where the game is available today, is about $ 4.5 million. For comparison, the total revenue of Honor of Kings for its first 22 days in 2015 was $4.2 million.
However, there is one nuance in the figures presented above. We don’t even know approximately how much Perfect World earned in its native market, given the sales on non-indexed Western analytical services Android platforms in the Middle Kingdom.
Recall, according to the analytical company Nomura, the total earnings of Honor of Kings in February alone could reach about $ 1 billion. And if the estimate is fair (and Perfect World is also successful on Android, as well as on iOS), its revenue in the debut month may also be in the region of a billion dollars.
Perfect World
As for the product side of the issue, Tencent’s Perfect World is a mobile version of the Beijing Perfect World MMORPG of the same name popular in China.
The original project was launched as part of an open beta in November 2005. At the time of release, extensive customization and a great emphasis on PvP activity were highlighted among the key features.
How much has the mobile version gone Perfect World from the original and how close it is to modern mobile MMOs from Korean developers, it is still difficult to say. Judging by the first user videos, the game does not have an autoboy, but there is an autobog.
It is not known on what terms Tencent operates the mobile version. The developers of the new product are Beijing Perfect World.
