King first released a game in the midcore genre
The developer of Candy Crush Saga has released a free-to-play mobile role-playing game Legend of Solgard for iOS and Android. It became not only the first role-playing title in the King portfolio, but also the first project focused on the midcore audience.
The Venture Beat publication suggests that King’s entry into the territory of midcore projects will help the company attract an audience that is not interested in ordinary casual games.
In Legend of Solgard, there is pumping and collecting characters, and the main gameplay resembles the Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes combat system, which was published by Ubisoft in 2009.
Legend of Solgard was developed by Snowprint Studios, one of the founders of which is the former product director of King Alexander Ekvall. He left King in 2015 to pursue his own role-playing game. The result of his three-year work was the Legend of Solgard.
Mobile games are an important source of income for Activision-Blizzard Corporation, which includes King. In the second quarter of 2018, mobile provided the group of companies with record revenue of $521 million, which accounted for a third of the organization’s total quarterly revenue.
