Tencent secured 40% of all investments in the gaming business (in monetary terms)
The Chinese corporation Tencent is the largest gaming investor in the world. From April 2017 to the end of March this year, Tencent invested in gaming companies 40% of all funds that developers and startups of the video game industry managed to attract in 12 months.
This is reported by the analytical company Digi-Capital.
The company’s largest investment was the purchase of shares of the French developer and publisher Ubisoft. It cost the Chinese side $2 billion dollars.
Among other significant investments by Tencent over the past year, it is worth noting $ 630 million to the Douyu streaming platform, $474 million to the publisher of MMO games Shanda Games and $130 million to the Korean mobile developer Kakao Games.
Tencent also participated in more than 75% of all mergers and acquisitions in the video game industry during the same period.

According to the company, in total, about $22 billion was invested in the gaming sector last year.
Digi-Capital notes that over the past 3 months, investments in the gaming industry have reached a record $2.1 billion, and the quarterly volume of mergers and acquisitions amounted to $14.4 billion.
