Opinion: launching a raw game in early access can benefit its quality

The head of Bossa Studios, Henrique Olifiers, believes that the industry is using early access incorrectly. Developers are releasing almost finished games, while Oliphers wants to see more projects in early access at the initial stage of readiness.

In his opinion, if players are given to evaluate the basic version of the future game, their reaction and advice will help to find mistakes and prepare a better product for the final release.

But so far, the industry has the opposite trend — developers are trying to polish their game as much as possible for early access release, and players take it for granted and demand that the alpha version of the title look like a ready-made project.

“I feel that we are depriving ourselves of an important tool when we do not allow players to get acquainted with the project at an early stage of readiness,” Olifers said.

The latest project of Bossa Studios — MMO Worlds Adrift — should be released in early access next month.
