Fortnite's "battle Royale" mode was created in 2 months
The head of the publishing division of Epic Games, Ed Zobrist, spoke about the work on the Fortnite Battle Royale freeplay mode, thanks to which the Epic project has become one of the most popular games in the world in six months. According to Zobrist, the “battle royale” for Fortnite was ready in just two months.
Most of the work in creating the PvP mode was done by the development team of the Unreal Tournament online shooter.
According to the original plan, Fortnite Battle Royale was supposed to be an in-game Fortnite mode, which at that time was in paid early access and cost $ 40.
Two weeks before the release, the creators made the final decision to split the two versions and make the “battle royale” a frituplein. As it turned out, it was the right decision.
“I doubt that any of the major publishers would have been able to cope with the task as quickly as we did,” said Ed Zobrist.
Fortnite Battle Royale was released on September 26 on PC and consoles. On March 15 of this year, the mobile version of the “royal battle” was launched, access to which is still by invitation. The total audience of the Epic project at the beginning of this year exceeded 40 million people.
