More than 90% of large gaming companies use Amazon cloud servers

The online capabilities of most of the largest gaming companies depend on Amazon. According to representatives of the corporation, 90% of the leaders of the gaming industry use the infrastructure of Amazon Web Services cloud servers. Amazon’s customers include such giants as Activision, Supercell and Ubisoft.

The functionality of Amazon Web Services is not limited to providing server space. AWS has the following features.

Support for gaming services

Amazon provides services related to online games: technical support, broadcasting on Twitch and a relatively new voice control function. It works on the basis of the Amazon Alexs virtual assistant.

Voice control is used in the online shooter Destiny 2, where players can switch between mission tasks through a microphone, call up a character’s inventory and join groups with friends.

Data collection and processing

The Supercell mobile company uses Amazon Aurora, Amazon Kinesis and Amazon CloudFront cloud services to collect and analyze user data of Clash Royale and Clash of Clans players.

According to Supercell representatives, user activity in the company’s titles generates up to 10 terabytes of data per day.

Administration of multiplayer servers

Ubisoft uses the services of the Amazon GameLift service to manage dedicated servers and match selection in the online action movie For Honor.
