Gameloft has closed a studio in Madrid

The French mobile publisher Gameloft continues to close foreign offices. A month ago, the company liquidated a branch in New Orleans, and recently it became known about the termination of the work of the division in Madrid.

Gameloft does not specify exactly how many employees fell under the reduction. According to the Spanish resource Vandal, about 40 people were left without work.

According to Josep Maria Sempere, director of the Spanish version of the Eurogamer gaming edition, Gameloft liquidated the studio without warning. The Madrid branch did not even have time to remove ads for new employees from recruiting sites.

Gameloft Madrid has worked on titles such as Asphalt Xtreme and Gods of Rome.

This is the seventh closed Gameloft office in the last three years. Previously, branches in New York, Seattle, Tokyo, Valencia and New Zealand ceased to exist.

The closure of studios can be explained by the new Gameloft policy. As reported in the company’s latest financial report, the publisher aims to make money on advertising and support for existing projects, and not on the release of a large number of new games. In this regard, Gameloft has ceased to need the current number of studios focused on the development of new titles.

Massive cuts may also be associated with a drop in profits. By the end of 2017, Gameloft’s profit fell by 42%. This happened against the background of a slight increase in revenue with the appearance of 10 new releases.
