Ex-Visceral employee: Dead Space 2 cost at least $60 million
Former Visceral Games studio level designer Zach Wilson called the cost of developing a sequel to the sci-fi horror Dead Space — $ 60 million.
This amount does not include marketing expenses and other additional costs. Wilson suggested that with the marketing expenses, the game’s budget has almost doubled.
Total sales of Dead Space 2 amounted to 4 million copies. Considering that some of the copies were not bought by the players for the full cost, Dead Space 2 most likely never paid off.
Recall, on October 17, Electronic Arts announced the closure of the Visceral Games studio. The company has developed the Dead Space trilogy and the Battlefield Hardline shooter. The latest Visceral project — an action adventure in the Star Wars universe — was transferred to EA Vancouver Studios.
