Apple Design Awards 2017: Which games did Apple like?
Traditionally, within WWDC, Apple selects the best mobile apps and games in terms of design. So it happened this year. Briefly about the winning games – in our material.
Of the 12 applications that received awards, five turned out to be games.
Blackbox from the indie developer from the USA Ryan McLeod is a puzzle in which to solve problems it is necessary to use all the functionality of the phone: turn it over, speak into the microphone, insert charging into it and so on. Apple notes that the game has 77 thousand 5-star reviews.
Splitter Critters is a puzzle game from Canadians from RAC7 Games. In the game, the user must guide the aliens to the flying saucer. To do this, the player must cut the locations into pieces and swipe to move them so that the green men can safely reach the goal.
Mushroom 11 is a platformer from the American Untame. The task is to guide an alien type of jelly through a post-apocalyptic type of location. The main feature is management. Jelly can’t move. Its movement is possible only if the player removes part of it. For example, if you want to move it to the right, remove part of the jelly on the left.
In the Austrian Old Man’s Journey from Broken Rules, you also have to solve riddles. This is a beautiful adventure game, similar in mechanics to Splitter Critters. The player must swipe to build a location so that the main character of the game can pass it.
Severed from Canadian Drinkbox Studios is a first-person dungeon crawler whose combat mechanics are built on swipes. The game stands out among similar projects not only in combat, but also in an unexpected graphic solution within the genre.
The last three projects presented in the selection are multiplatform. For example, Mushroom 11 was released back in 2015 on Steam, and Severed on PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS a couple of months before the release on iOS.
