Acer is going to release a tablet for $99
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Taiwanese company Acer is preparing to introduce a tablet for $ 99, thereby starting to compete with Chinese manufacturers of budget devices.
The characteristics of the new product, also called Iconia B1, will be similar to the parameters of tablets from Amazon.com Inc. and Barnes & Noble Inc. in 2011. A seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels, a dual-core processor with 1.2 GHz.
The main difference between them will be that the price of the novelty will not be $ 139, as with competitors, but $ 99. So, in fact, the Acer device will be the first branded gadget for such a low price.
It is designed primarily for emerging markets, where the technical component plays a less decisive role compared to the price. Due to this, in fact, the products of small Chinese companies are in demand in such markets.
By promptly releasing Iconia B1, Acer also hopes to compete with the yet-to-be-announced hundred-dollar tablet from Google and Asus, which the latter refuses to release.
