Richard Garriott did not have enough $ 11 million for a long-term role
Richard Garriott’s Portalarium studio did not meet the budget of $ 11.6 million and will resort to crowdinvesting to finance the development of the role-playing game Shroud of the Avatar.
Portalarium expects to raise from $500 thousand to $2 million by putting up 8% of shares on the Seedinvest crowdinvesting platform.
In 2013, Portalarium conducted a successful Kickstarter campaign, during which 200 thousand people donated $11.6 million to the Shroud of the Avatar project.
But by May 17 of this year, the company had $528 thousand left, while Portalarium spends $230 thousand a month.
According to representatives of Portalarium, the money raised will be used for marketing and the release of monthly updates after the launch of the game, which should take place in the second half of this year.
During the first two years after the launch, Portalarium hopes to receive revenue from Shroud of the Avatar from $5 million to $50 million.
Shroud of the Avatar has been in development since 2013. Since November 2014, the first episode of the game Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues has become available in Steam Early Access.
The title is a combination of a single-player story campaign and the capabilities of an MMO sandbox.
Game designer Richard Garriott is known as the author of the Ultima role-playing series, which includes the widely popular Ultima Online MMO.
