Membership in the American league League of Legends was estimated at $ 10 million
The North American esports League (LCS) MOBA League of Legends will switch to a franchise basis. The cost of a team place in the league will be $10 million.
The transition of virtual competitions in League of Legends to a new model was announced by the developer Riot Games at a press conference on June 1.
LSC will retain the composition of 10 teams. To stay in the league, the current teams will have to contribute $10 million according to the results of the summer qualifying matches. Riot Games offer to pay this in installments until 2020. However, the initial payment cannot be less than $5 million.
The revenue distribution structure in the league should provide players with better financial motivation. Riot and team owners will receive 32.5% each, and 35% of the revenue will go to the players.
“We believe that this process will encourage old—school gamers to team up with new investors to create new teams that should embody the best from both sides,” said Whalen Rozelle, head of the esports direction of Riot Games.
