Oculus Co-founder Palmer Lucky has left Facebook

The co-founder of the Oculus project, Palmer Luckey, has left Facebook.

“We will miss Palmer very much. His legacy extends far beyond Oculus. Palmer’s inventive spirit launched the VR revolution and helped build the industry. We are grateful for everything he has done for Oculus VR, and we wish him all the best,” Oculus said.

Palmer Lucky’s resignation was preceded by a scandal and a lawsuit between Facebook and ZeniMax Media over intellectual property rights in the field of VR technologies. The court ordered Facebook to pay ZeniMax Media $ 500 million, and Palmer personally had to pay $ 50 million, because he was found guilty of disclosing confidential information.

Palmer Lucky is the developer of Oculus Rift. Prior to the Oculus project, Lucky worked as an engineer at the Mixed Reality laboratory of the US Institute of Creative Technologies (ICT), where he participated in the research and development of virtual reality systems. Palmer Lucky ran a successful Kickstarter campaign for Oculus in 2014, raising $2 billion. He is also known as the owner of the world’s largest collection of VR headsets.
