Release of the day: Tom Clancy's ShadowBreak

The first mobile game under the Tom Clancy brand was released in the Canadian App Store and Google Play. The project is an original mix of sniper simulator, strategy and battler.

What?

A mix of Deer Hunter and Clash Royale, which turned out to be very much from both the first and the second game.

How?

There is an arena that is a copy of the same in Clash Royale. There are six towers on it, half of the towers belong to you, half to the opponent.

The player has 4 cards in his hand. You can bring them into the arena only when a sufficiently local analogue of mana has been generated. Plus, there is a general cooldown.

The task is to smash the opponent’s towers with your cards.

According to the description, it sounds like a clone of Clash Royale, but there is a nuance.

The player acts as a sniper, who sits in one of the five shelters available on his half of the field and helps to kill his opponent’s card fighters. This should be done carefully, because when aiming, the player becomes visible to the enemy.

If the opponent notices the player, he can kill him. Killing blocks the player from casting cards for a few seconds.

To prevent this from happening, you need to learn to shoot quickly and accurately, as well as constantly change the location. Otherwise, the opponent will keep you at gunpoint all the time.

Monetization in the game is based on pumping the deck and weapons.

Why pay attention?

The game is a visual demonstration of the first lesson of the game designer from Mark Brown: even genres that are very far from each other can be combined. Yes, even battler, strategy and sniper simulator can work together.

At the same time, despite the complexity of Tom Clancy’s Shadow Break, it is interesting to play it.

What should I be ready for?

While there is very little content in the game, and the gameplay itself, although addictive, is still messy.
