Overwatch Esports League predicted revenue of $100 million in the first year
According to research by investment management company Morgan Stanley, the Blizzard esports league can receive from $100 million annually.
Under certain conditions, revenues can reach $720 million. According to Morgan Stanley, the company can expect that the League will bring in $32 million from licensing and advertising, $30 million, $27 million for merchandise and $13 million for ticket sales.
The Overwatch League needs 72,000 constantly active viewers and 7.7 million viewers during the playoff season to make these amounts a reality.
But if Blizzard doubles the number of teams in the League from 16 to 32 and can successfully reach an average of 75,000 regular season viewers and 12 million playoff viewers, the company will claim revenues of up to $720 million.
The Overwatch League was established by Activision Blizzard in 2016. The task of the Overwatch League is to give players the opportunity to become esports stars, create a suitable environment for this and encourage success in the game.
