GitLab will open the chat code for Gitter developers

GitLab, a service for collaborative programming, announced the purchase of Gitter, a startup that allows developers to correspond while working together on a program. GitLab has promised to put the Gitter code in open access.

The Topics feature will soon be added to Gitter, where developers can ask questions and share experiences.

“Gitter is the best in its class for indexing topics, but it can be difficult to find the right information in it. The format of “questions and answers” will add convenience to the service,” explained the head of GitLab Sid Sijbrandij.

Gitter was launched in 2014 and a year later collected 2.2 million investments. During its existence, over 800 thousand developers have registered on the service, and its monthly audience is about 300 thousand users.
