121 million copies of Minecraft have been sold in the world

Minecraft’s circulation on all platforms has exceeded 121 million copies since its release in 2011.

21 million copies of the sandbox game have been sold in the past six months alone. At the same time, the monthly audience of Minecraft has also increased — from 40 to 55 million players.

The copyright holder of the Minecraft series, Microsoft Corporation, continues to develop the product even on direct competitors of its own Xbox platform. The strategy pays off: there is only one game left in the world, so far ahead of Minecraft in terms of the number of copies sold — this is Tetris.

Minecraft is an indie sandbox game developed by Swedish programmer Markus Persson and produced by Mojang, a company founded by Persson. In 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang along with the rights to Minecraft for $2.5 billion.
