Metacritic: the number of highly rated games in 2016 dropped by 75% compared to 2001
In 2001, significantly more cool games were released than in 2016, according to Metacritic estimates.
The Finder search resource shared interesting statistics. The editors of the site calculated the number of games that received more than 90 points on the Metacritic rating aggregator. Only the Metric generated by media estimates was taken into account. Multiplatform titles were counted only once and without taking into account remasters and re-releases.
For the period from 1996 to 2016, 90 titles received 90 or more points. The peak in the number of hits coming out was in 2001 – 32 titles. The least of them came out in 2015 – 5 games. In 2016, there were not much more – 8 names. The maximum score is 99 points for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (in the cover photo of the news).
