Results of 2016: Maxim Babichev from VKontakte about the transition of the gaming industry in the CIS to the Cold War phase
Maxim Babichev, the head of working with developers on the VKontakte platform, told App2Top about the main events, trends and unexpected turns in the gaming industry this year.
Year for the company
This year can be dubbed intensive work with parts of the gaming platform that are invisible to users and developers. We have laid the foundation for the 2017 updates. This will allow you to create full-fledged working tools for developers and updates for players.
Probably, one of the most important milestones is the decision not to chase the locomotive in an attempt to create an attractive, but driven into the framework of functionality, product for inclusion in the agenda and symbolic results of the year.
Event of the year in the world
Turning the industry towards HTML5 games. Next year, I am sure we will hear a lot of stories about HTML5 platforms from large companies. This saga is just beginning.
Trend of the year
From month to month, I observed that, as it seems to me, companies became more closed and less talkative. There was a feeling that the gaming industry of the Russian Federation and the CIS had finally left the stage of good fraternity and moved into the phase of the cold war “everyone against everyone”. Astrologers observed a year of verified silence and politically correct statements.
Game of the Year
I’ll name two.
The first is Pig Bang. The guys made a cool and casual kroshilovo with claims to esports.
The second is Guns of boom. A broad gesture towards Counter-Strike. A shooter on a mobile phone, what it should be.
I was particularly inspired by both games and it’s quite a difficult task to distract from them.
