Super Mario Run dropped out of first place in terms of revenue in all regions
10 days after the release, Super Mario Run lost its first place in the box office tops of 59 countries. But in terms of downloads, the game is still leading in several dozen regions.
The first mobile game of the Japanese Nintendo is rapidly losing ground in the top. After its release on December 15, the game topped the box office tops of the App Store in 59 countries out of 150 where it was released. On December 25, the project lost its leadership in all.
Super Mario Run also loses in downloads. Since its release, the game has been in first place in 146 countries. But now the game can be found at the top of the charts in only 68 countries. Back on December 24, according to Bloomberg, the game topped the charts in 88 regions at the same time.
The drop in interest in the project may be due to both the termination of the big feature and the wave of user criticism. Most of the reviews for the game are negative. The average rating for all versions in the USA is 2.5 stars out of 5, in Japan – 2 stars, in Russia – 1.5 stars.
Players are unhappy with the type of monetization of the project: the game itself is available for free, but you have to pay for access to most levels. Users are also outraged by the high price by the standards of the mobile market – $ 10. They were also upset that the paywall occurs very early – after the third level.
On December 23, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Run downloads totaled 50 million. In the first three days, the game earned $14 million.
