The US Federal District Court ruled that Amazon must pay parents the money that children spent on IAP in games.

The plaintiff was the US Federal Trade Commission. In 2014, Amazon was accused of making purchases too easy in the company’s mobile games. Because of this, according to the commission, the children purchased an IAP worth $86 million.

According to the court ruling, at the beginning of 2017, the company will warn parents about the possibility of returning the money, after which it will begin to return them. The total amount of compensation has not yet been announced. It is known that the commission estimated the damage at $26.5 million, but the court considered this amount “too large”.

Note that Amazon tried to get her to be allowed to return the money in the form of gift cards. The court refused the company.

In 2014, the US Federal Trade Commission initiated similar cases against Apple and Google. Apple agreed to return at least $32.5 million, and Google – $19 million.
