17% of female gamers in the US call themselves hardcore players

40% of American players are women. Of these, 56% consider themselves midcore or hardcore gamers (39% and 17%, respectively).

She also shared a graph of the popularity of genres among men and women on PC in the USA. The most popular among women were games in the genres of action, action-adventure and puzzles.

Stephanie does not mention how the study was conducted. The reason for her post on the Superdata blog was the absence of female characters on the teaser image for the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer.

“We know that the female audience will become larger and her voices will sound louder, so why not speed up this matter [by including female characters],” Stephanie asks Rockstar.
