Fireproof Games: £1.4 million was spent on the development of The Room Three
The most successful game in The Room series remains the first part, the third is the most expensive in production,” the British studio Fireproof Games said in an infographic.
One of the rare studios sharing their expenses and sales is Fireproof Games, founded in 2008 by the developers of Burnout 3 and Burnout Paradise as an autosource company.
The last time the British studio published data about itself was in March 2014, a couple of months after the release of The Room Two. Now, almost a year after the appearance of The Room Three, the company is once again publishing information about how things are in the series.
From the most interesting published by Fireproof Games: almost 9 times more money was spent on the development of The Room Three, released in November 2015, than on the development of the first game and 3 times more than on the development of the second.
This is easily explained by both the bloated working staff from 4 to 11 people and the increased development time. If the first part was done in 8 months, then the second took 9 months, and the third already took 20 months.
At the same time, the total sales of the first part are 6.9 million, the second — 3.2 million, and the third — 1.3 million. Each of the parts is distributed according to the premium model (the exception is the “pocket” version of the first part). The price tags depend on the game and platform, but, in general, they range between $0.99 for the first and $4.99 for the third.
Total sales of the series reached 11.6 million.
The data published by an independent studio, whose director Barry Meade is a jealous supporter of premium development, unfortunately does not include data on earnings of Fireproof Games from the series. Therefore, we can only talk about the amounts earned by the company approximately.
Recall that The Room is a series of mobile quests. The gameplay in the series of games is based on the opening of numerous boxes. In order to open each one, you need to solve several puzzles.
