Clash Royale still had a negative impact on the earnings of Clash of Clans
Because of Clash Royale, Clash of Clans’ revenues fell, Pokémon Go increased Nintendo 3DS sales by 50%, and Starcraft II earned $314 million in four years – this is not only in the latest Superdata report.
The American research company Superdata has published the tops of global digital sales for the past July. But this time it is not that in the report that deserves attention. Moreover, the positions in the tops have changed minimally (in particular, GTA V disappeared from the Top 5 cash PC projects, giving way to Guild Wars 2).

The most interesting thing is different.
Firstly, the company’s analysts came to the conclusion that Clash Royale still had a negative impact on the performance of Clash of Clans. From March to April alone, Clash of Clans revenues fell by 23%. A similar decline was observed in Clash Royale over the same period. From May to June, the total drop in the income of both titles was 16%, and from June to July – 12%. So, Superdata sums up, despite the initial success of Clash Royale, IP as a whole did not have such a big increase.
For comparison, in October last year, Machine Zone launched Mobile Strike, a clone of Game of War: Fire Age in a modern setting. The game had a relatively quiet launch (if the aggressive advertising campaign with Schwarzenegger’s participation is considered quiet), and the project became the third mobile project in the world by the results of last July. But more importantly, the release and success of the game was “little blood” for Game of War. The total income of the latter over the past six months has increased by 16% compared to the same indicators a year ago.
Mobile Strike
Superdata concludes that Clash Royale was fueled by the Clash of Clans audience, but did not increase Supercell’s user base.
In turn, Machine Zone sacrificed the instant success of Mobile Strike in favor of long-term benefits.
Secondly, Superdata notes that the successful release of Pokémon Go (the most successful in the history of the mobile games market) helped Nintendo with sales of consoles and games for them. Sales of the 3DS handheld console increased by 50% in July compared to last year, and sales of games such as Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y doubled.

Thirdly, Superdata told about the fact that Starcraft II has earned $314 million over the past four years.
Moreover, the game earned the last $ 40 million between October and November 2015, when the third major addition Legacy of the Void was released. The problem is that despite the $19.8 million spent on prize money, the game has not become comparable in success with the first Starcraft esports title. Therefore, it is quite possible that Blizzard will stop promoting Starcraft II as a sports discipline. Instead, she may just re-release Starcraft in high resolution, and for the second part she will continue to stamp story packs.
