The American office of WG Cells, a division of Wargaming for the development and publication of mobile games, closed: 64 studio employees lost their jobs.

“Every game we released was widely known and well received, but this did not make them the locomotives of sales,” David Bluhm, co-founder and head of the American division of WG Cells, explained the closure of the studio in an interview with GeekWire.

Bloom also noted that neither for the team nor for himself – the closure was not a surprise.

What will happen to the Cyprus and Ukrainian offices of WG Cells (the WG Cell website says that the company’s headquarters are in Cyprus, and the development studio is in Kiev) is still unknown. WG Cells was launched in October 2015.

WG Cells has worked on games such as Loot & Legends, Fantastic Plastic Squad and Smash Squad. The first one was launched when the American WG Cells was called DropForge Games. This project is currently removed from the stores. Fantastic Plastic Squad is operated by the Pond Sand developer himself.

Now, according to App Annie, WG Cells is running on iOS with Operation games: New Earth and Smash Squad, and on Android – with Operation: New Earth and Galaxy Rangers.

“Yes, indeed, the structure of WG Cells will be disbanded in the coming weeks. This decision was made in order to optimize the company’s work in the field of mobile game development, which remains an important area of the company’s work. Mobile development will be focused in a number of different key regions for the market, rather than in one place, which will allow the company to respond more quickly to changes in such a dynamic market,” the company said Wargaming in conversation with App2Top.ru .

Edits: added information about current WG Cells projects, and also added a link to information on the location of offices.

Edit 2: A comment was received from Wargaming.
