Former owner of Supercell bought ARM for £24 billion
The Japanese SoftBank Corporation has acquired ARM, one of the world’s largest developers and licensors of mobile chipsets. The value of the transaction was £24 billion.
ARM’s headquarters will remain in Cambridge. The staff of the British company, which now amounts to 3 thousand people, will double over the next 5 years.
“This is one of the most important acquisitions in our entire history, and I expect ARM to take a key place in the development of SoftBank,” SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son commented on the deal.
ARM is SoftBank’s first major acquisition since it became known that the Japanese telecommunications giant is parting with a significant part of its assets.
Recall that SoftBank sells large shares of securities in a variety of enterprises, it became known at the end of May. In June, Tencent got the shares of Supercell owned by SoftBank. At the same time, the Japanese company began selling shares in Alibaba and in GungHo Online.
