Video games on Kickstarter have become less actively sponsored

In the first half of 2016, games on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform raised only $8.2 million. For the same period last year, the amount amounted to $20 million. The figures were published by the consulting firm ICO Partners.

According to the company, the number of projects on Kickstarter has fallen slightly. But the funds from users have become much less. In the 1st half of 2015, $ 20 million was invested in video games, and in the 1st half of 2016 – only $8.2 million.

There are fewer large projects requiring $500,000 or more to launch on the site. In addition, users no longer want to sponsor expensive games: the number of funded titles with a “price tag” of $ 500 thousand has sharply decreased.

The good news, according to ICO Partners experts, is that the number of games that managed to collect the required amount within a given period has increased. In other words, there are fewer cases when the project does not have time to collect money for a certain period of time and is closed.
