Zynga has taken up the cloning of King and SGN products
While King is facing the issue of retaining the user base and a possible departure to midcore, Zynga is trying to win back at least some place in the market of casual projects in the three-in-a-row genre.
Otherwise, it is difficult to explain the worldwide release of the company’s new game — Crazy Cake Swap. Already by the name, you can guess that Zynga has decided to continue the culinary theme once set by King. But the company decided to adopt the visual style from the also very successful three-in-a—row company – SGN. For example, the Crazy Cake Swap icon almost duplicates that of Cookie Jam. The graphics in the game itself are also very similar to the one used in the development of SGN.
Whether this step is correct from the point of view of promoting the product as original is an open question. In Ireland, where the game has been in a soft launch since the end of February, it showed stable box office results with uneven downloads. In any case, the purpose of releasing such projects, according to VentureBeat, is to “pour” users caught by the project into Zynga slot projects, in which users are much more willing to pay.
Despite the fact that in visual terms, Crazy Cake Swap borrows a lot from competitors, the mechanics of the game are relatively original. For example, one of the modes is based on the need to dig a path across the playing field from one edge of the map to the other so that a game character can run along it. Digging, of course, is offered using a combination of game objects.
Zynga’s previous attempt to enter the casual gaming market was not very successful. The trace three-in-a-row FarmVille: Harvest Swap shows very average box office results in most regions. The iOS version of the game in the United States, for example, is now on the 254th place in the overall top box office applications.
Crazy Cake Swap is a development purchased in the first quarter of this year by Zynga of the California studio Zindagi Games, which previously created a game for PlayStation Move. She also did three-in-a-row. They cannot be called successful, but their cash figures are just at the level of FarmVille: Harvest Swap.
Speaking of slots, simultaneously with Crazy Cake Swap, Zynga also released new slots — Willy Wonka Slots.
