Microsoft will launch a service for converting PC programs into those that will run on mobile

Microsoft Corporation has introduced the Desktop App Converter service, which will transfer programs of the Win32 and .NET to Universal apps for Windows Store.

Microsoft запустит сервис по конвертации PC-программ в те, которые запустятся даже на мобильных устройствах

By universal applications, Microsoft today understands those that comply with the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) standard. The latter work on all platforms of the company — PC, mobile, Xbox.

Recall that one of the features of Windows 10 is the universality of the system’s application store for all platforms on which the OS runs. And if there is a universal store, then there must be universal applications. There may not be enough of them now (in September there were about 670 thousand in the Windows Store). The announced service, in theory, should solve this problem.

Most likely, it will not do without pitfalls, because, as any developer is well aware, even engines positioned as multiplatform are not ready to issue universal builds. As a rule, optimization and polishing is required for each platform.

The announcement of the service took place within the framework of the Build conference, just taking place these days (April 29 — May 1) in San Francisco.
