The authors of Battleheart make Advance Wars about Cowboys
Mobile market veterans from Mika Mobile Studio have announced a new tactical strategy game Lost Frontier about the Wild West, magic and “incredible technologies”.
As far as can be understood from the first details, the project is the ideological heir of the classic series of the Japanese studio Intelligent Systems, the authors of such franchises as Advance Wars and Fire Emblem.
That is, each mission in Lost Frontier is a map with a view from above, on which our and the enemy’s troops are placed. Presumably, every turn we can give orders to our troops, and the next turn — the opponent does it.
The game will also have special types of units — “living legends”. A legend is, in fact, a player’s avatar, which, along with experience and improvements, is transferred from mission to mission.
Developers from Mika Mobile, explaining how they came up with the idea to make just such a game, reveal that they divide turn-based strategies into two types. In one — the player controls the heroes, pumps them and, of course, can lose. Examples of such games are Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem and X-Com. In another type of turn—based strategies, troops are consumables for controlling the map. For example, this is the case in Civilization and Advance Wars.
According to the developers, it is the latter type that is now poorly represented on the market, so they decided to take up the creation of such a project by adding the avatars already mentioned.
The announcement of Lost Frontier is a double surprise. Firstly, the genre of turn-based tactical strategies has not caught on on mobile platforms, despite a number of factors that could well contribute to its popularization (it is convenient to play such projects on the sensor, the PC games market is experiencing a “golden age” of such titles). Secondly, Mika Mobile previously specialized in real-time games (platformers and RPGs). In any case, this surprise is a pleasant one.
Lost Frontier will be released this spring (by the way, there will be multiplayer).
