Details: how the authors of Candy Crush Jelly Saga implemented a hiking strategy in their game
A week ago, the world launch of the new three-in-a-row from King – Candy Crush Jelly Saga took place. The main surprise of the project is one of the mechanics that turns the game into a turn-based tactic.
The new mechanics, which we will discuss below, are based on the inversion of the classic type of levels of the original Candy Crush Saga. Recall that in the original game there are a lot of levels built on the need to remove all the jelly cells from the field. They are removed if the player matches the elements in the jelly cells. The jellies themselves do not block the movement of elements on the playing field in any way.
Classic jelly mode in Candy Crush Saga
In Candy Crush Jelly Saga, the logic of the levels is built from the reverse.
The player must not release the jelly from the field, but completely fill it with it. This mode is called Spread the Jelly. The “filling” of any free square occurs by a match of elements on it. But there is an important condition: in order for the jelly to occupy free cells, at least one element of the chain collected for “filling” must be on the jelly field.
Based on this new gameplay, King came up with the Beat the Queen level type. And we urge you to pay close attention to him. In it, the player fights with an AI opponent for dominance on the playing field (it sounds like we’re not talking about Candy Crush!).
The player’s task in this type of missions is to capture as many cells of the level as possible with his jelly. The opponent – the same Queen – will try to do the same.
It looks like this: initially, part of the cells on the damage is occupied by jelly of your color, part of the field is occupied by the jelly of the enemy. You match a number of elements, the move goes to the opponent. If you have completed more than four elements, you are given another move. Enemy cells can also be occupied. The main thing to remember is that in order to spread your jelly, one of the elements must be in a cell already occupied by your color. Otherwise, you risk contributing to the expansion of someone else’s jelly.
The project is played as a real tactical strategy. The nuance is that a lot depends on luck, as in any match-3.
The fact that this particular mode will help the new Candy Crush contribute to the retention of the series – we will not risk predicting. Moreover, it seems to us that its introduction was a very bold step on the part of King. The target audience of such games is not ready for turn-based tactical competitions.
However, this mode outside the context of the series seems to us to be a potentially very strong, winning pvp mechanic. Take a closer look.
