The international company Spellgun has launched the Clash Of Gods game on the Western market. The title is an adapted version of the Chinese Papa San Guo.

The original game was created by the Shanghai studio Huorang Game based on the classic Chinese novel “The Three Kingdoms”. The title got into the top 10 most profitable Chinese projects, according to the Pocketgamer resource.

From the source, Spellgun left only the mechanics. The appearance of the characters, the interface, the plot and the soundtrack have completely changed.

Spellgun plans to continue localizing Chinese titles. For the next release, the studio has already selected several games that have good performance in China.

Before the release of Clash Of Gods, the company was doing exactly the opposite: it adapted Western titles for an Asian user. For 7 years of existence, the studio has localized more than 500 games, including Angry Birds and Plants Vs Zombies 2.

“The whole story of the transfer from West to East is very complicated. It takes time, money and resources. If you localize complex midcore and hardcore games, then you need to keep your own team both in the West and in the East. Otherwise, most of the game will be lost during translation,” comments James Zhang, CEO of Spellgun. The company has two headquarters – in Shanghai and in San Francisco.

Note that the localization of Chinese titles for the Western consumer is in trend. So, at the beginning of last year, Firefly Games studio raised $ 8 million for the same purposes.
