Release of the Day: Zombie Hero: Revenge of Kiki
The indie movement brought back the popularity of classic platformers, but not their twin browlers (they are also games in the beat ’em up genre), whose golden age also fell in the late 80s – early 90s.
Nevertheless, the spiritual heirs of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe still appear periodically – including on mobile platforms. Zombie Hero, published by Bulkypix, is just one of them.
In the project, the user plays for Kiki, a loser villain who is constantly beaten by a superhero. But after the invasion of zombies, the situation changes. And Kiki is the only one who can save humanity from the invasion of the living dead.
The gameplay in the project is classic: the hero is constantly attacked by monsters, which he crushes with bundles of blows. There are not so many of the latter: the developers apparently felt sorry for mobile players and decided not to introduce directions into bundles. As a result, they all turned out to be built from two types of strikes. On the one hand, it is not difficult to learn them, on the other, it hit the fan directly.
Plus, we must understand that, in fact, not as much depends on the skill in the game as it could be. For beat ’em up, this is not very good, for free-to-play, unfortunately, this is the norm.
Monetization in shareware Zombie Hero is built around a shortage of soft currency, which is spent on strengthening the characteristics of the hero and his combos.
In general, the game cycle looks simple: the player beats zombies, from which a soft currency – blue spheres – flies out, and then improves the character’s characteristics with this currency. The latter allows you to pass the game by defeating stronger monsters.
In the event that the opponents are stronger, and there is no desire to go through the previous stages again, there is an opportunity to buy spheres for hard currency. But you can buy gold not only for the sake of a soft currency. On a solid one, you can also buy bonuses, which, for example, will temporarily increase the rate of experience gain or the amount of spheres flying out of monsters.
The project, which was released last week, has good download figures in Russia (it was ranked 19th in games on the iPhone App Store), as well as in small markets like the Philippines, the Bahamas and Brunei. As for revenue, at the moment the game has entered the Top 10 in terms of gaming revenue only in Paraguay. In the USA, the game reached a maximum of 624 positions in the top-grossing iOS games.
The average score of the game in the USA is 3.5 points.
